Exercise Therapy Balls
These brightly colored, inflatable, molded, heavy duty, vinyl balls can support up to 600 pounds. They are used by pediatric and NDT therapists as an indespensable vestibular aid for achieving normal movement and equilibrium. The non-slip vinyl surface is ribbed to give an extra sense of security. Under inflate for a soft "mushy" feel or fully inflate for a firm, bouncy feel.
Ideally, if you are sitting on the ball with your feet flat, your hips and knees should form a 90-degree angle with each other. This sitting position is called the 90-degree rule for sitting.
The exercise ball size is not only determined by your height, but also your weight and intended exercise position (sitting, lying on your back, standing, etc.). For example, if you are 5 ft. 6 in. tall and weigh 250 pounds, the recommended size is 65 cm. However, if you are 5 ft. 8 in. and have very short legs, you may want to try using a 55 cm. ball. If the ball is bigger than you need, try under-inflating.
The following serves as a rough guideline for determining the appropriate exercise ball size for individuals who exercise in a sitting position:
If you are debating between two sizes, the larger size may be the best choice.
